When you register a domain name, you are requested to provide a valid home address, email account and telephone number as per the policy approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This info, though, is not kept only by the domain name registrar, but is available to the public on WHOIS check sites as well, so anybody can see your details and some people may not be delighted with this. Consequently, many registrars have launched the so-called ID Protection service, which hides the registrant’s info and upon a WHOIS lookup, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner. This service is also popular as Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection, but all these names refer to one and the same service. Nowadays, most of the top-level domain names around the world allow ID Protection to be enabled, but there are still country-specific extensions that do not support this option.
ID Protection in Website Hosting
You can swiftly activate ID Protection for any domain that you’ve registered through our company if you have a website hosting account with us. This can be done through the same Hepsia Control Panel, via which you administer the web hosting account, so you won’t have to switch between different tools. In the very same section where all your active domain names will be displayed, there will be an “ID Protect” icon for each domain whose extension supports the service. The status of this icon will quickly show you whether the ID Protection service is activated for a certain domain name or not and by clicking on that icon you can activate the service if you haven’t done so during the account activation procedure. Besides, you’ll also be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any domain name using that same icon and the update will take effect instantly.
ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can activate our ID Protection service without any effort. This requires only several clicks of the mouse in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you administer everything related to your semi-dedicated hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your active domain names and for each of them you’ll find an “ID Protect” logo, using which you can enable, renew or disable the service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-specific domain name extensions that are ID Protection-eligible and you will be able to see this in advance, so you won’t end up buying a service that we cannot provide.
